Divide pie filling among 6 slices of bread, top with remaining slices to make sandwiches. Butter outsides of sandwiches, then cook in a skillet over medium heat until golden brown. Cut sandwiches in half. This step is optional; place halves on a rack in toaster oven and toast until extra crispy.
